Last week during our meeting with our cohort group, they asked for a volunteer to let their proposal be critiqued by the group. I immediately shot my hand up because I has previously talked to Dr. Graham. I knew I was leaving for GA and would not be back on Saturday. I was really shocked by what came next. Brent Wilson led the group into the critique and we analyzed every word of my proposal. I came away feeling like I had a valuable topic because a lot of people were engaged in the conversation. Anytime a group of people talk about culture, identity, or race, things usually get heated. I could feel my blood pressure going up. It wasn't that I felt like I was being attacked, but I felt like I was defending my thesis already. I also realized how passionate I am about my topic. It was great. Really it was and I'm glad I had that experience. It was definitely eye opening. I now need to get back to the table, grab some sticky notes, and rework my proposal. I want to really get the funds to complete my project!
